Michelangelo. What do we know about him? Well, he is a fun-loving, pizza-eating dude who wears an orange bandana…

Michelangelo had produced many fine works of art over his lifetime. But his most famous work was painting the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling. A series of paintings depicting key Biblical stories, they are suspended 13 meters above the chapel floor, etched into the very ceiling itself!

Now, we have a question for you. Which of these was Michelangelo’s most essential tool as he worked? (A) Paintbrush & Pallet (B) His Creative Mind
The answer is C! The scaffolding he stood upon.

Michelangelo spent 4 years on this one impressive work. But because he wasn’t a giant among men (though he is a giant among artists), he wasn’t tall enough to reach the ceiling to paint! He had to rely on a piece of scaffolding, praying he would not fall as he painted “The Fall Of Man”.

Thankfully, Michelangelo didn’t fall while working on that masterpiece. But years later, he fell from his scaffolding while painting the Sistine wall. He dragged himself home because nobody was around to help him, and was in pain for many days until a doctor came to treat him.
If even famous artists like Michelangelo are at risk from falling, how about our workers today? They are artists in their own right, sculpting concrete, steel and glass into homes and office spaces. And they work at heights far higher than Michelangelo ever had to. Why not invest in fall protection for these brave men and women!
